She & Him’s nostalgic track “I Thought I Saw Your Face Today” is nearly 20 years old, yet it took on a new life last year thanks to a surprising TikTok trend. Creators embraced the 2008 song as a soundtrack for viral video edits and photo slideshows, using the lyric “I somehow see what’s beautiful in things that are ephemeral” to dramatic effect.
The track—which was the very first song Zooey Deschanel shared with bandmate M. Ward for their debut album—ended up becoming their first-ever Billboard Hot 100 hit last year, sparking renewed interest in their early catalog. Deschanel and Ward are now in the midst of their Pump Up the Volumes Tour, celebrating songs from their first three albums of original material, and brought the show to Downtown Los Angeles for two nights at the historic Orpheum Theatre.
Take a look at scenes from Friday night’s performance—where they took the stage for a 30-song set after Jordana opened the evening—captured for FLOOD by Danielle Agnello below.
