Brooklyn-based songwriter Avery Friedman has shared a new single entitled “You Move,” which follows her 2025 LP New Thing. Out now via Audio Antihero, the track is a slick alt-pop cut built around layers of vocals and guitars that melt the middle ground between Mk.gee and shoegaze. “You Move” arrives ahead of Friedman’s gig tonight at Life World in Brooklyn, where she’ll share a bill with Slow Fiction, Native Sun, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart’s Kip Berman.
“‘You Move’ is about savoring the unexpected fruits that reveal themselves amid times of uprootedness,” Friedman explains. “It is a song about putting trust in the glimmer of new love, and carefully sowing the seeds for it to sustain. Both thematically and sonically, it’s about searching, surrendering and allowing yourself to relish. My hope is that ‘You Move’ invites people into the world of my soon-to-be-finished sophomore album—a world that encompasses a full-swing of emotionality, and lets loss and pleasure dance together. I’m so excited to share the song and video ahead of my first-ever UK and EU shows.”
Regarding those first-ever UK and EU shows, Friedman will head overseas on Halloween for a set in Amsterdam. From there, she’ll perform in London, Sheffield, Bristol, and York before concluding the run in Berlin. Check out those dates below, where you can also find the video for “You Move.”
