In 2024, revered songwriter Matthew Sweet suffered a devastating stroke while on tour and has since endured an incredibly challenging and costly recovery. Sweet is one of the most distinctive musical voices of the ’90s, with tracks including “Girlfriend,” “I’ve Been Waiting,” and “Sick of Myself” becoming alternative rock mainstays. His impeccable taste extends beyond his music: the artist and his wife, Lisa, have also amassed an incredible collection of mid-century furniture, sculptures, rare musical instruments and equipment, vintage tiki artifacts, and “Big Eyes” artwork.
To help cover his ongoing medical costs, Matthew and Lisa are offering items from their collection through The Sweet Collection estate sale, kicking off today and running through Sunday, October 25. Although the sale takes place in Bellevue, Nebraska, near Sweet’s hometown of Omaha, bidding is open nationally by phone. Items that don’t sell will be offered via an online auction in the coming weeks. Preview the items and find more information here—and watch a video showcasing the collection below.
