Miles Ahead, the crowdfunded Miles Davis biopic starring Don Cheadle as the titular jazz legend, is making its premiere at the New York Film Festival this weekend. The film is something of a passion project for Cheadle, who, in addition to his starring role, served as its director—and learned how to play the trumpet for the part.
Ahead of the film’s debut this weekend, the filmmakers have released a clip of Cheadle as Davis in the studio, clutching his horn and offering direction to his ensemble. Check it out for yourself below, then try not to get lost in In A Silent Way for the rest of the morning.
