Nobody owns the cult-classic Super Troopers (God owns—it’s God’s comedy), but in turning to crowdfunding to make a sequel, Broken Lizard has in a sense allowed thousands of contributors to buy a little piece of the product. With help from a mysterious “crowdfunding guru,” the campaign mounted by the 2002 cult classic’s makers was immensely successful, shattering the $2 million benchmark, and eventually shooting up past the $4.5 million spot (meaning that, yes, there will be live bears used in the making of the film). To give some perspective on the whole thing, the original film was made for $30,000 by an all-volunteer crew.
True to Broken Lizard’s promise, the production of Super Troopers 2 has indeed kicked off before year’s end, as evidenced by social media posts from various members of the gang.
