LA’s Gateway Drugs released their debut LP, Magick Spells, back in March, and if the combination of the band name and that spelling of “magic” has you thinking you know what these guys are all about, think again: while there’s a narcotic tint to “Cavity Creeps,” whose video we’re pleased to be premiering today, the track finds the quartet—siblings Liv, Noa, and Gabe Niles, plus Blues Williams—either scraping the barrels of dopesickness or else so far out on something so ugly you’d never want to follow them there.

Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not compelling music; far from it. “Cavity Creeps” picks up the old late-night MTV aesthetic, the processed layers of metallic grime covering what seems to have already been a pretty hazed-out shoegaze track, and the video follows suit, the super-8 footage of dark clouds over the Pacific Ocean neatly mirroring the lyric’s resignation: “She won’t come back to me/She won’t come back you’ll see.”
