It’s time to head back to Underland and, well, fight Time itself himself in the first full trailer for Alice Through the Looking Glass. The logical sequel to Disney‘s 2010 Alice in Wonderland, which received a resounding collective review of “meh,” Looking Glass brings back all the intensely colorful characters from the first film, but replaces Tim Burton with James Bobin (The Muppets, Da Ali G Show) as its director.
Within the film’s trailer, Lewis Carroll fans get their first look at the new franchise’s interpretation of Underland after the Jabberwocky had been slain and the good White Queen (Anne Hathaway) was reinstated as the magical land’s ruler. It turns out, that Mission Accomplished-style celebratory ending from Wonderland might have been a bit premature because the world of Looking Glass looks real dark for Alice (Mia Wasikowska). The Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) is back, the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) has been kidnapped, and Time (Sacha Baron Cohen)—a new addition to the crew—doesn’t seem very friendly at all.
Alice Through the Looking Glass is slated for a May 27, 2016 release.
