Last Friday, Grimes released her highly anticipated fourth album Art Angels. This Friday, singer-songwriter Natalie Prass will celebrate the release of her Side by Side EP, which features a fanciful cover of Claire Boucher’s most recent hit “REALiTi.” Prass’s version strips away the original track’s lush layers of synths and Boucher’s signature breathy falsetto, but it keeps “REALiTi”‘s infectious beat and light tone. Prass recently spoke about why she wanted to cover Grimes:
“REALiTi” by Grimes. Four chords. Simple lyrics and melodies. I think the world of her. We worked this song out in the studio never having played it before and recorded it like 3 times through. I think it works although she’s probably going to say ‘what is this jazz shit’ and hate it.
