The Besnard Lakes may be from Montreal, but they have far more in common with the crags of Laurel Canyon than they do the snowy banks of the St. Lawrence. The quintet announced the release of A Coliseum Complex Museum a couple of months ago with the roaring “Golden Lion,” and now they’re back with “The Plain Moon,” which you can hear below.

Like the previous single, “The Plain Moon” rides ebulliently on Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas’ twinned harmonies, with the band behind them stuttering like they’re trying to keep their balance on a downhill climb. The brightness of those vocals and the murky grind they transcend make listening to the song feel a bit like descending out of the mountains and into the smog below.
