LISTEN: Shamir Covers Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf”

The North Las Vegas star is opening a string of dates for the new-wave band this spring.

Before he was taking over Stephen Colbert’s stage with his funk-inflected hip-hop, Shamir Bailey was a country singer in the burg of North Las Vegas. As hard as that may be to believe when you see it in writing, it makes a little more sense when you hear his cover of Duran Duran‘s “Hungry Like the Wolf.”

Rather than play up the song’s new-wave backing—which would be a logical choice given the tone of his 2015 album Ratchet—Shamir turns the song into a lament. You can listen below, and check Shamir on tour with (who else) Duran Duran this spring.
