Heaven’s Jail are preparing to release their fourth LP, Widow’s Work. The band have already shared the album’s title track, and today we’re pleased to be premiering the second single, “Warbirds,” which you can hear below.

Widow’s Work, which follows 2014’s Matthew Houck–produced Ace Called Zero, finds singer Francesco Ferorelli reflecting on the nature of death and mourning. “Take the wheel while I take aim,” he sings, and while that may sound like an invitation out of some kind of Tarantino-meets-Refn thriller, the twang of Ferorelli’s guitar burns with a kind of resignation. That mournful gunslinger conceit is enough to have landed the group an invitation to play Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion festival during this year’s SXSW.
