Philadelphia’s Weekender released their debut EP Spanish Peaks in 2013 and drew up a buzz outside of the City of Brotherly Love with their early-morning dream-pop. Now, the group are back with a new collection—January’s Floaty Feeling, Blue EP—and a video for the title track.
The video was shot around Philadelphia by director Jay Yachetta, who chose to capture the band in a shape-shifting, panoramic format. “He had wanted to shoot a panoramic video for some time and thought it would be cool try it for ‘Floaty Feeling, Blue,’” singer Derek Sheehan says. “Our other friend Ryan Putnam, who did the cover art for the record, edited the effects for the video. We shot at three different locations in Philly, and for the walking scenes Jay is sitting in a wheelchair holding the camera, and I am pushing him while singing along to the song.”
The wide-open sky, its perfect blue slightly tweaked by Putnam, feels like a perfect thematic match for “Floaty Feeling, Blue”’s open, rolling guitar lines and Sheehan’s bright melody; it’s hard to imagine listening to this track at night, lest the darkness snuff out the stacked vocals’ collective chime. Fortunately for you, it’s still morning, so check it out below, and catch Weekender gigging around the Northeast; those dates are below, too.
