José González will release his first solo album in seven years this upcoming February, a debut in sharing wholly original content. The singer-songwriter, who most recently has been playing with Junip and also provided soundtrack direction and content for Ben Stiller’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, produced Vestiges & Claws in the warmth of his Sweden home kitchen, adding the finishing touches at Gothenburg’s Svenska Grammofonstudion. The record pulls inspiration and technique from producers González has worked with in the past, along with the sharp percussion and emotive lyricism found in folk and protest songs.

González, who has favored minimalism in recording his tracks, has found an appreciation for layering guitars and background vocals. His signature muddled sound is not, however, lacking and, of course, there’s still a hefty serving of that impeccable finger picking, as shown in the album’s teaser trailer.
