After portraying a giant desert Queen and somehow managing to make Google Glass seem attractive, Tahliah Barnett (aka FKA twigs) returns with her next feat and second video off her Mercury Prize–shortlisted debut, LP1. The monochrome clip for the brooding, sultry “Video Girl” was expertly helmed by Kahlil Joseph and finds its heroine behind the glass of a death row waiting room, seemingly torn between a state of mourning and one of bitter empowerment. Without further ado:
Were I a betting man, I’d put serious money on Barnett to continue her rampage by running away with tonight’s Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize, which hono(u)rs the strongest UK album of the year. Win or lose, FKA twigs is certainly doing her part to reform our conception of what pop music can be. Be sure to keep an eye out for her November 4 performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
