The second iteration of Justin Vernon’s Eaux Claires festival went down this past weekend outside of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, with a lineup put together by Vernon himself and The National’s Aaron Dessner. There were musical headlines aplenty—new joints from Bon Iver! Chance the Rapper popped up, as he is suddenly wont to do!—but perhaps owing to its setting in the woods of Foster Farm and Vernon and Dessner’s careful curatorial work, such splashy news feels incidental. At the risk of getting all sappy—though certainly Good Winter himself wouldn’t mind, right?—it’s about the music.
Our photographer Daniel Cavazos was on site in Wisconsin this weekend; here’s what he found. Special thanks to Burton Snowboards for hooking us up with enough camping and rain gear to stay sheltered and dry throughout the weekend.
