Remember back, if you can, to when you were a child. In those days, there were only three reasons to go to the desert: to collect bleached longhorn skulls, to recreate scenes from The Wizard, and to receive packages from the Acme Corporation. Now, though, the desert is a place you play after you’ve done the Super Bowl.
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival announced their 2017 lineup today, and the headliners might well be behind your top three albums of 2016: Radiohead, Beyoncé, and Kendrick Lamar will all be making the trek out to Indio. They’ll be joined by The xx, Bon Iver, Future, Gucci Mane, Father John Misty, Nicolas Jaar, The Avalanches, Phantogram, Mac DeMarco, New Order, Future Islands, Devendra Banhart, Car Seat Headrest, Mitski, Whitney, Twin Peaks, Floating Points, Thundercat, Bonobo, Francis and the Lights, Guided By Voices, Sampha, both Kings Sunny Adé and Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Lemon Twigs, and pretty much every other band that put out an interesting record last year (or that has one on the way). The entire lineup is below.
This year’s fest goes down April 14–16 and 21–23. You may want to start figuring out your lineup now.
