Despite its positioning at the very edge of the continent, Golden Gate Park has been a great place to see people play live music and get liberated for many a decade. This year, Outside Lands will be returning to the erstwhile Sherwood Forest to set up shop for its tenth anniversary—break out the tin and aluminum!—with a lineup that reflects the continued legacy of everything that San Francisco stands for in the popular mind: You’ve got ’60s legends in The Who, Bay Area thrashers Metallica, paisley psychedelia via Khruangbin, foggy jazz courtesy of the always-down-to-party Thundercat, and so on.
But getting to Outside Lands isn’t easy, and that’s before you take SF traffic into consideration. The journey from baby band to festival invitee is a long one, and the rigors of touring life never seem to get easier, even for older groups. On their new podcast The Road to Outside Lands, TuneIn follows Mondo Cozmo and Dawes as they make their way across the country playing gigs, killing time on the road, and doing their best to stay healthy and sane. Today, you can give a listen to the series’s first episode, which follows Dawes around the East Coast as they reflect on what they’ve learned about a life spent on the road.

Outside Lands runs August 11–13 in San Francisco, CA. Click here for more info.
