Mount Eerie, the recording project of Phil Elverum, has announced a new double-album, entitled Sauna, to be released February 3 via Elverum’s own P.W. Elverum & Sun label. Sauna follows Mount Eerie’s last set of albums, Clear Moon and Ocean Roar, both released in 2012.
A press release for Sauna notes, “This is music meant to weigh heavy on you like a lot of cold water at night, and also the sword glimmering at the bottom of the lake at night.” Sounds pretty heavy, indeed.
Check out the album trailer, which features a quick look inside The Unknown (the recording space Elverum uses in Anacortes, Washington) and a clip of the recording process where organ chords are blasted out of a huge amplifier into a gong. That’s right, a gong. Artwork and track listing are included below.
Sauna will be released in expected Elverum awesomeness, on two high-resolution 45rpm LPs with heavy old-style gatefold jackets, a jumbo poster and a download card. You can pre-order it here.
