Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist Josh Benus is setting out to release his debut record as Glass Dove in the coming months with the help of Grammy-winning producer (and The Roots’ former bassist) Owen Biddle. The project’s debut single “Cigarette Sunset” introduces Glass Dove as being firmly set in the same dreamy pop universe as Benus’ other projects (including Modern Inventors), albeit with strains of chillwave and 8-bit beats creeping into the formula.

A harmonious duet with Liz Cooper, “Cigarette Sunset” has a wanderlust quality to it, which Benus claims was inspired by the pair’s experiences on the road. “In short, it was our ode to the open road,” says Benus. “We managed to create the hazy, disorienting aesthetic of how it feels to travel from place to place, longing for normalcy but surrendering to the consequences of the lives we chose.”

You can hear “Cigarette Sunset” below. Further plans for Glass Dove have yet to be announced.
