After the wild success of My Brightest Diamond’s latest LP, the baroque pop vocalist is gearing up to rerelease A Million and One for a target audience of French Touch enthusiasts. No, not really—but dolltr!ck’s pulsing new remix of her French-language version of “Champagne” offers a taste of what that might sounds like for all those Francophones out there.

“I loved the original versions of ‘Champagne’ in both French and English, especially My Brightest Diamond’s vocals,” explains the Singapore-born electronic artist dolltr!ck. “I’m a fan of Shara Nova and her music, and I wanted to stay true to her artistry while also putting a fresh spin on the song. House music inspires me significantly and I thought I’d have a go at creating a dolltr!ck version of ‘Champagne’ that people would want to dance to!”

MBD’s Shara Nova gives further explanation for the track’s genesis:

“Inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem ‘Still I Rise,’ I wrote the song ‘Champagne’ in the spirit of a fighter who is determined to prevail despite the opposition around them. What’s your opposition? How do you find your own breathing space and the determination to rise like air? The inevitability of air’s ascent reminds me to be aware of my own air, to breathe, to allow my head to float on the top of my spine and to simply stand in my space. I can float.”
