Holly Miranda just wants to dance.

Such is the case in her kicky new music video, “Golden Spiral.”

The second song from Miranda’s 2018 full-length, Mutual Horse, received the video treatment from actor/director Natalie Morales, who shot and edited the entire visual exclusively on her iPhone X. Morales also added backing vocals to the track.

The clip was shot on location in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans, and features dance-happy cameo appearances from actresses Taylor Schilling, Cyrina Fiallo, and Jenny Wade and DJ Lauren Flax.

“I was at my apartment in New York messing around with this loop when my friend came by and started singing the opening line, Ride your pony down the block and tie it up outside of 7-Eleven.’ Where she grew up in The Valley in the late ’70s, there was a guy who would ride his pony to the 7-Eleven and tie it up outside,” Miranda explained about the song.

“That first line set the wheels in motion to lyrically explore this neighborhood. However, it wasn’t until I started working on this song in the Dangerbird studios in Los Angeles that the sound really came together,” Miranda added. “Maria Eison, Jared Samuel, Josh Werner, and Jon Ullman brought this song to life. It’s my favorite on the record.”

Fans in and around the Bay Area can catch Miranda live when she headlines the California Women’s Music Festival on March 8 at Milk Bar in San Francisco. It’s all part of the 2019 International Women’s Day celebration.
