In the summer of 2012, Matthew E. White’s debut LP Big Inner washed over listeners like a Bourbon Street Sazerac on a hot day. Dripping with murky atmosphere, White appropriately drew comparisons to classic Randy Newman, but his music also warrants a nod to Dr. John, Bill Callahan, and any other sinister interpreter of Americana that you can think of.
After a few years preparing, White has now readied the release of his sophomore album Fresh Blood, which was recorded at Spacebomb, his analog studio in Richmond, Virginia. You can hear (and see) a taste of what’s to come in the album trailer, which was shot on Super 8 film, and features a snippet of the track “Tranquility.”
