While Alice Ivy is the toast of hometown Melbourne, her latest track comes with a heavy dose of Detroit in its smooth, synth-saturated grooves.
Ivy (born Annika Schmarsel) was performing at Falls Festival in Australia when she became fast friends with Detroit artist Flint Eastwood, also on the bill. The pair went on to link up in a Texas studio last March during SXSW to start working on music together.
A follow-up session at Detroit’s historic Assemble Sounds recording studio would result in the final product: “Close to You.” The Motor City authenticity runs deep—there’s even a Belle Isle shoutout in the lyrics.
The track will be released worldwide on digital streaming services on Friday, February 22 by Last Gang/eOne globally and via Dew Process in Australia.
The summery, slow-motion dance anthem comes with flashes of kalimba rhythms and thick, layered vocal melodies in the swirling and emotive mix. Listen to it below.
