Sharon Van Etten hit The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night to deliver a simmering version of her latest single, “Comeback Kid.”

Taken from Van Etten’s latest LP, Remind Me Tomorrow, “Comeback Kid” is a hard-driving rocker with echoes of PJ Harvey and Nick Cave. It’s the influence of the legend Patti Smith, however, that looms largest over the dramatic and powerful performance. In other words, she was great. Watch it below.
