If your mental image of The Wild Reeds’ “Lose My Mind” was a Fellini-esque fantasy of clowns, lavish excess, flashbacks to childhood, and spaghetti when you first heard it last December, the LA group has finally confirmed that your imagination isn’t too far off from their own. The first single from their third studio album—Cheers, released earlier this month—is exactly that, filling the track’s four minutes with a highly personal collection of people and images attached to co-bandleader Kinsey Lee.

“‘Lose My Mind’ is a song that I wrote years ago about friendship, family, and emotional support,” Lee explains. “Our director Michael [Tyrone Delaney] and I have been friends for a long time. He has been at birthday parties, family dinners, and at about every show that we have played in LA. When he gave me the rundown and asked to get my grandparents involved, I was stoked to see how his vision would pan out. I love my family, I love my friends, and my bandmates—it was so special to see Michael put us all in the same room and tie us into one video.”

Dramatic, textured, but undeniably playful, the clip is the perfect companion piece to the single. “Enjoy this crazy thing, you’ll see snippets of my childhood, my dance moves, and my friends dressed up like the beautiful freaks they are,” Lee concludes.

Cheers is out now via Dualtone Records. See the Reeds’ upcoming tour dates below.
