While they may not be as prolific as some members of the Burger Records extended family, Cosmonauts are certainly among the most consistent. The rotating cast of SoCal rockers—as well as their unchanging leaders, Alexander Ahmadi and Derek Cowart—have dropped four of the most dizzying psychedelic rock records of the decade while remaining a constant in LA’s local garage rock scene.
Today, the band is sharing their latest single from their fifth LP, Star 69, which embraces the trippy energy of Austin’s heavy psych scene, with whom Cosmonauts certainly have a history. As they tour the country with Austin’s Night Beats, check out the trance-inducing video for the upbeat, droning “Seven Sisters,” with LA natives Rikky Gage of White Fang and Colleen Green filling out the band.
“Our buddy Steele O’Neal directed this video for us, and he’s great,” says Cowart. “We shot it on the roof of Alex’s building in downtown LA, so it matched the frantic and noisy vibe of the song. Having our friends Colleen and Rikky play bass and drums also kept things loose and honest.”
