It’s been a long two-plus years since Everybody Works, the Polyvinyl-released debut from prolific multi-instrumentalist Melina Duterte, better known as Jay Som. Aside from a stellar collab EP with fellow Angelino Justus Proffit last fall and a recent contribution to the ever-impressive Adult Swim Singles library, her newly announced album Anak Ko—Filipino for “my child”—will be the first we’ve heard from her since the 2017 debut.

Today’s exciting news comes with the album’s first single, the dream-tinged jangle pop number “Superbike,” along with a video supplement capturing Duterte’s recording process in Joshua Tree (not to mention some extracurricular sightseeing and an inimitable West Coast sunset). In her own words it’s an ode to both Cocteau Twins and Alanis Morissette—a surprisingly smooth pairing worthy of your ears.

Anak Ka is out August 23 on Polyvinyl. You can pre-order it here. Check out here extensive fall tour schedule below the video.
