Bon Iver’s fourth album is coming to close out your summer and usher in the slow decay of the year that is fall. The thirteen-song record i,i includes two new tracks released today, “Jelmore” and “Faith.”

Watch the lyric video for “Jelmore” below, in which Justin Vernon warns, “we’ll all be gone by the fall” while a dancer jerkily winds her way across fields and hilltops, walking as though the world is shuddering beneath her.

“It feels very much like the most adult record, the most complete,” Vernon said of i,i. “It feels like when you get through all this life, when the sun starts to set, and what happens is you start gaining perspective. And then you can put that perspective into more honest, generous work.”

Recorded at Sonic Ranch in West Texas, and April Base in Wisconsin—two peaceful and remote locales, no doubt—i,i includes contributions from artists such as James Blake, Brad and Phil Cook, Aaron and Bryce Dessner, Bruce Hornsby, Channy Leaneagh, Naeem, Velvet Negroni, Marta Salogni, Francis Starlite, Moses Sumney, TU Dance, and more.

As for the record’s ambiguous name (are we pronouncing i,i like the letter ‘i’ twice, as a pirate might growl “aye aye, sir” before following his captain’s orders?) Vernon explains: “The title of the record can mean whatever it means to you or me. It can mean deciphering and bolstering one’s identity. It can be how important the self is and how unimportant the self is, how we’re all connected.”

Bon Iver is touring in the U.S. this September and October, sharing the stage with the Indigo Girls, Sharon Van Etten, Fiest, and Yo La Tengo. See a list of full dates below and pre-order i,i here.
