As you probably already know—that is, if you are a human being living in the U.S. of A—Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” has been the number one song in the country for fifteen weeks straight. That’s three and a half months. If this song were a baby, it would be in its second trimester by now.
The track’s staying power certainly has something to do with Nas X’s hip attitude, penchant for memes, and ability to get down with the kids on social media. Today, he released an animated video for the Young Thug and Mason Ramsey remix of his all-powerful reigning tune—and the video is set at Area 51.
Area 51 has made headlines this week due to a highly popular Facebook event for a meet-up/raid of the classified United States Air Force facility. 1.3 million people have signed up for the threateningly named “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us” so far, most of them hoping to see whatever extraterrestrial activity they suspect is being hidden by our government there.
Someone started a GoFundMe page urging Lil Nas X to play at said raid and he gamely agreed, tweeting, “i got y’all for free! let’s do this shit.” Ever a man of his word, he followed up with a video featuring animated versions of himself, Billy Rae Cyrus, Thugger, and Ramsey, riding up to the desert alien party on horseback.
The intended raid date is this September, so…plenty of time for Lil Nas X to rehearse his set. Peep the video below.
