Having Morgan Kibby (M83, White Sea) co-produce your debut full-length can do wonders for your budding sound. At least, that seems to be the case with LA’s indie-pop trio Wildcat! Wildcat! Last week, Paste premiered “Hero,” the first single from the group’s forthcoming album, No Moon At All. While the track continues to highlight the sonic strengths of the threesome—echoing synth lines, fragile falsettos, and hypnotic beats—”Hero” explores the vast depth of Wildcat! Wildcat!’s growing soundscape through intricately stacked instrumental and vocal layers (some surprisingly similar to that of Ben Gibbard). This lush wall of sound (an example of Kibby’s influential hand at work) adds a necessary sense of drama to a track with a larger than life name.

No Moon At All will be available on August 5 via Downtown Records.
