Yesterday morning, iconic ESPN anchor Stuart Scott passed away after a long battle with appendix cancer. He was 49.
Scott burst onto the scene in 1993, quickly moving up the ranks of ESPN to become a staple of the definitive SportsCenter telecast, alongside Rich Eisen, Linda Cohn, and Dan Patrick, just to name a few. During his time with the show, Scott was responsible for numerous household catchphrases such as “Boo-Yah!” and “Cool as the other side of the pillow,” not to mention his many roles in the classic “This Is SportsCenter” commercial series.
At the ESPYs this past July, Scott accepted the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, where he gave an impassioned speech about his fight with cancer, which you can (and should) watch below.
