In this particularly baffling moment in hip-hop, there is one thing that most of us can all agree on: it would be great to hear new music from André 3000. According to the rapper Thurz, that dream might become a reality sooner than we think.
Thurz was being interviewed on Real 92.3-FM’s Homegrown Radio show in Los Angeles talking about the experience of working with hip-hop legend Dr. Dre in the studio. While discussing some of the famous faces that appear when you’re in a recording studio with someone of Dre’s stature, Thurz casually mentioned that none less than Three Stacks himself had made an appearance, followed by the bombshell statement that “He’s got an album.” Needless to say, show host DJ HED was taken aback, to say the least. Quickly realizing the gravity of his words, Hip-Hop DX points out that Thurz made a point of tempering his comments: “He played a lot of ideas that sound like an album to me so I’m just jumping to conclusions. He played a lot of cool ideas…yeah, he’s making music. He’s like one of my favorite rappers.”
Considering that 3000 is a lot of people’s favorite rapper (including many who don’t even like rap music), a new album from the more esoteric half of OutKast would be welcomed with open arms. Time, as they say, will tell.
