It’s been fourteen years since we took a trip to camp with Coop, Beth, Andy, Gene, and the whole gang, but it looks like Camp Firewood class of 1981 is getting back together for another crazy summer.
After years of struggling to get a sequel to his 2001 cult comedy off the ground, this week, thanks to Netflix, David Wain has started filming a limited-run follow up series for Wet Hot American Summer. Get your tube socks and short shorts ready.
While the original film was not considered a success (critically or commercially), its insanely talented ensemble cast including Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Ken Marino, David Hyde Pierce, Christopher Meloni, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, and more has helped boost Summer‘s reputation and following. With Wain once again at the directing helm—as well as cowriting the series with long time partner Michael Showalter (who played Coop in the original film)—nearly the entire cast of the original film will jump back into their hilarious roles and (hopefully) hairstyles.
No official release date has been set for the eight-episode series, but we’ll be here, waiting patiently for more excellent love advice from Paul Rudd.
