In a just-released “24 Hours With…” video from Vogue, rapper Megan Thee Stallion revealed an unexpected new facet of her talent: she’s a horror film aficionado, and currently in the midst of writing her very own horror script.
“Everyone knows I fuckin’ love horror movies,” she tells a friend from the backseat of a car. Her favorite is Evil Dead, a true cinephile’s choice—that is, if she’s talking about the original 1981 version, directed by Sam Raimi. If she’s talking about the 2013 remake, well…OK then.
“I like movies that make you semi fall in love with the villain, so you have sympathy for him,” she continues, explaining that every story needs a Bad Guy. “That’s why the Batman never killed Joker.” She’s right, of course; Batman must have a devious foil, and without Joker we wouldn’t have career-best performances from Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix, and um…Jared Leto.
Megan’s companion asks if she’s seen 2009 slasher flick Human Centipede, a movie so vile Roger Ebert famously awarded it no stars, writing, “Is the movie good? Is it bad? Does it matter? It is what it is and occupies a world where the stars don’t shine.”
In response, Megan screeches in distress. “But I appreciate whoever made that movie,” she concedes wisely of Centipede. “We needed that for the culture.”
