Steely Dan closed out their residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre by welcoming a most unexpected guest onstage: Jenny Lewis. During the last show of a five-night performance by “the Dan” that was billed as a “greatest hits” set, Lewis joined the band to lead them through 1972 hit, “Dirty Work.”
This was the second surprise guest Steely Dan has rolled out during the residency. Over the first two nights, the band was joined by David Crosby, who performed Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young song, “Wooden Ships,” plus joined in on Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ in the Years.”
While Steely Dan famously shuns social media, the band’s young guitarist, Connor Kennedy, has been sharing concert updates on his Instagram.
“We wrapped up at Beacon Theatre tonight with special guest—and one of my absolute favorite musical artists—Jenny Lewis,” Kennedy posted after the show. “[She] sang ‘Dirty Work’ like a ?️,” he added, with a photo from the performance.
