In 1981, the publicist, copywriter, and true American hero John J. B. Wilson hosted the first ever Golden Raspberry Awards in his living room, honoring the finest endeavors in bad filmmaking from the previous year. (The first official Worst Picture winner was the Village People biopic Can’t Stop the Music. As it turns out, they can stop the music, and they did.)

Thirty-four years later, The Razzies are more important than ever, serving the essential purpose of reminding audiences that for every fancy-pants Oscar film that gets made, there are five others that get chewed up and spit out, doomed to live on in Hollywood infamy and Netflix-bound shame.

In the wake of the unpredictable Golden Globe Awards, this year’s stupendous nominees have just been announced. Of course, it wouldn’t be the Golden Raspberrys without His Holy One, Nicolas Cage, who nabbed his fifth-career nomination for Left Behind, or Razzie legends Michael Bay (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Renny Harlin (The Legend of Hercules), whose five-career Worst Director nominations are tied for the most all-time along with Brian De Palma (Brian, get back to work).

Remember, fellas, just like at any award ceremony, it’s an honor just to be nominated.

The Razzies will be awarded at Hollywood’s Montalban Theater on February 21—the day before the Academy Awards. Full nominees list below.
