EASY EYE SOUND/FANTASY

Marcus King has teamed up with Black Keys guitarist-producer Dan Auerbach to release his first ever solo album, El Dorado, which promises to be a soulful blend of southern R&B, country-soul, classic rock, and blues.

The Marcus King Band was founded in Greenville, South Carolina in 2013, and along with drummer Jack Ryan, bass player Stephen Campbell, trumpeter/trombonist Justin Johnson, and sax/steel guitarist Dean Mitchell, Marcus will be touring this month and through much of next year.

King premiered his new album’s first single “The Well” recently, and following today is a track called “One Day She’s Here,” written by Marcus, Dan Auerbach, and Pat McLaughlin. The song packages Marcus’ sensual falsetto with strings for a languorous soul vibe about a love who just won’t stay (“one day she’s here, the next she’s gone.”)

Of the track, Marcus shares, “This was a writing session I was a little bit late to and when I got there [Dan and Pat] had this bouncy chord progression. We kind of picked it up from there and started moving forward. A reoccurring theme throughout the record is old Cadillacs. And this idea of something you love fading away into the distance appealed to me as writer. Something that I think everybody can relate to is seeing something fade away like that.”

Auerbach adds, “Marcus is known by so many as a phenom guitar player, and rightfully so. He’s regularly the best player in the room, hands down. I was equally blown away by the way he can sing—so effortless, so soulful, straight from the heart. He’s a naturally gifted writer too, which was clear right away. Everything for him is so innate—that’s why he can always go right to the heart of a song and connect in a deeper way. He’s really one of a kind and I’m proud I got to work alongside him on this record.”

El Dorado is out January 17 on Fantasy Records in association with Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound. To pre-order, go here, and listen to the track/check out tour dates for the Marcus King Band below.
