The third annual Krewe du Kanaval festival will take place February 14 (hey, that’s Valentine’s Day!) at New Orleans’ Mahalia Jackson Theater, and today it was revealed that festival co-founders Win Butler and Régine Chassagne will be headlining the event with their band Arcade Fire. Along with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band (whose leader Ben Jaffe is also a co-founder of the fest), Haitian DJ Michael Brun, Trinidadian DJ Jillionaire, and Congolese-Canadian artist Pierre Kwenders, the band will be helping to support the festival’s 2020 theme, “Merci Haiti.”
“Krewe du Kanaval was created to honor New Orleans’ creole culture with its Haitian and Caribbean roots—a piece of this city’s history that is very important to me,” Chassagne shared in a press statement. “Our Krewe hopes to join the amazing people of New Orleans carrying this torch and carve a place in the Carnival tradition to explicitly pay tribute to these roots.”
