In case you haven’t heard, Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard (along with several other young actors from the cast), has a side career as a musician, and he’s just released the debut track from his new band, The Aubreys. “Getting Better (Otherwise)” will appear on the soundtrack for The Turning, an upcoming horror flick in which Wolfhard also stars, directed by Floria Sigismondi.
The Aubreys also includes Wolfhard’s former Calpurnia bandmate Malcolm Craig (Calpurnia is no longer together). Both boys have also appeared in several PUP music videos.
Of “Getting Better,” The Turning Original Motion Picture Soundtrack co-producer Lawrence Rothman explains, “Finn’s character in the film (Miles) is a real musical kid and retreats to his bedroom a lot to dispense his grief and confusion into music and we wanted that represented on the soundtrack. Finn and his bandmate Malcolm came to my studio and we had a chaotic eight-hour session where it all came together fast. We blasted Jay Reatard’s ’90s band the Reatards in the studio during our session breaks, and a bit of that influence came into the recording of the song.”
The Turning Soundtrack will also feature music from Courtney Love, Mitski, Soccer Mommy, Empress Of, Vagabon, Warpaint, Cherry Glazerr, Kali Uchis, Alice Glass, and Kim Gordon.
The album is out January 24 via Sony Masterworks; The Turning hits theaters the same day.
