Ladies and gentleman, Tame Impala 2.0 has officially arrived. It’s been years since Kevin Parker’s project made its full-length debut with Innerspeaker as a band of guitar-toting retro-rock revivalists from Down Under.
In 2020, Tame Impala—which has evolved into a Kevin Parker solo project featuring childhood friends when he goes on the road—is set to release a new album, aptly titled The Slow Rush. Five years have passed since the project dominated the indie rock landscape with Currents, and now Parker is ready for his closeup (and Billboard cover story), eager to become a producer/collaborator akin to the Mark Ronsons and Jack Antonoffs of the world.
With The Slow Rush scheduled for release on February 14, followed by a North American tour with Perfume Genius that launches in March, Parker is making big, bold moves and redefining the definition of “rock star.”
Today, we have the latest music video from the album, “Lost in Yesterday,” directed by the duo Terri Timely. The ode to extreme nostalgia is wrapped in a warped visual finding Parker and his band performing at a wedding reception. It looks kind of like a hipster hell. Or purgatory, at least. Watch it below.
