For nearly twenty years, Seattle-based archival label Light in the Attic have been responsible for dozens of incredible re-issue projects, turning new generations on to lost classics and preserving long sought-after gems for die hard music heads. Thanks to Light in the Attic, we have a multitude of vinyl re-issues and digital offerings from The Free Design, Betty Davis, Rodriguez, Serge Gainsbourg, Lee Hazlewood, and countless others.
On Friday at 4 p.m. PST, the label will be giving back, presenting a charity livestream concert benefiting MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund, assisting those in the music community affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The event will feature new performances from Light in the Attic artists—along with friends from around the globe—each covering songs from the label’s deep catalog. Artists scheduled to appear include Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, Texas blues singer Barbara Lynn, comedian Fred Armisen, singer/songwriter Devendra Banhart, Brazilian icon Marcos Valle, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, The Free Design’s Sandy Dedrick, The Black Angels’ Alex Maas, Money Mark, Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard, and Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys, among others.
“While quarantined at home—from Rio to Tokyo; Cardiff to Austin; Barbados to Italy—each musician will be doing what they do best, sharing the gift of song,” the label said in a press statement. “Maybe in their pajamas and maybe with their kids, and wherever feels comfy and cozy in the privacy of their home.”
