We got to know Alfie Templeman over the past two years when the seventeen-year-old songwriter dropped a series of impressive EPs: 2018’s Like an Animal and 2019’s Sunday Morning Cereal and Don’t Go Wasting Time. It seemed impossible for him to top the sugary coating on bold pop tracks like “Used to Love” and “Stop Thinking”—yet “Happiness in Liquid Form” sees an evolution from Templeman’s Brit-pop background into full-on disco-pop.
“‘Happiness’ is the most colourful sugary disco-pop song I’ve put out so far,” Templeman agrees of the single, which sounds a bit like Bombay Bicycle Club blended with Chromeo. “It came about so easily one day in the studio with Justin from The Vaccines and his right hand man, Will, and by the end of the day we knew we had something special on our hands. It’s a tough time for everyone right now so hope this brings a little happiness into people’s lives!”
The single debuted on the BBC Radio 1 program Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World, and is available to stream now below, and on Spotify here.
