WATCH: Alt-J, Grouplove, Briston Maroney, and More Cover “Shelter From the Storm”

Jealous of the Birds, Benjamin Scheuer, and MICHELLE also contribute to the Bob Dylan cover.

We already know Grouplove has mastered the collaborative live stream, but today we’re learning their skills are matched by a slew of their Canvasback Music/Atlantic Records/Parlophone labelmates. This morning, Altantic’s YouTube premiered a new video featuring the LA group alongside their peers Alt-J, Jealous of the Birds, Briston Maroney, Benjamin Scheuer, and MICHELLE’s Sofia D’Angelo playing an acoustic rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Shelter From the Storm.”

While the clips were all seemingly recorded separately, they’ve been spliced together in a way that exhibits each individual artist’s unique voice, while later imposing multiple videos over each other to create impressive harmonies. “It’s lovely to get to play music with musicians on the same label as us; some of whom we know, some of whom we don’t,” Alt-J shared of the collaboration. “It was a new challenge recording this at home separately, even separately from each other, but we think the result is lovely and we hope that it brings a smile to people’s faces at this tricky time. Lots of love.”

“When Canvasback came to us with the idea to collaborate on a more well known Dylan song with our labelmates we were so down,” the members of Grouplove added. “It’s always satisfying to go outside of your comfort zone and try something new, especially during these trying times—not to mention attempting to memorize ten verses.”

The video aims to raise money for MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund—watch the clip below, and donate on Atlantic’s YouTube page.
