While it’s not officially a national holiday at this point, May 27 is always a day to celebrate in America. Leading the campaign to acknowledge hip-hop game-changer André 3000’s birthday this year is Tank and the Bangas—the New Orleans collective who’ve been on our radar since their 2017 Tiny Desk performance—who are sharing a new single devoted to the OutKast rapper.
“For André” is a soulful number replicating the smooth counterpart to Big Boi’s more aggressive group raps on Speakerboxx. “We love André 3000,” shared Tank et al. “We love Outkast. André has culturally shaped hip-hop in a very unique way from his clothing to his cadence. Tank fell in love with him along with the rest of the world a long time ago. For his birthday, we all thought an ode to him would be the perfect gift.”
