The latest installment of Rain Phoenix and LaunchLeft’s Launched Artists Digital Singles Series arrives today in the form of a remix to Simi Stone’s 2017 single “Beautiful One,” courtesy of Simi herself. Revived for her 2019 LP The Rescue, the minimalist anthem’s redux is notably denser, featuring layers of warped vocals between Stone’s lyrics and the plucked acoustic guitar that opens the original track. As she notes, the song arrived at the perfect moment.
“Considering that we are living through a complete revolution of our society, I can’t believe that my song ‘Beautiful One’ is coming out on LaunchLeft in the middle of it,” Stone shares. “The little moments of magic are what this song was made for. A dream. I was going through some of the heaviest emotions I had ever felt when I was recording it back before the world changed… ‘Beautiful One’ is a prayer, an anthem, me pushing through beyond the smog to the sky…going to the joy instead of waiting for it to come to me.”
Yet another product of quarantine, “Beautiful One” is pure joy, celebrating moments of optimism in an already-heavy year. “I hope this remix, made during the COVID-19 quarantine in NY, has some light and an escape…because that’s what it gave me. I am so happy I was born brown!”
