As could be expected by now, the August 1 rescheduling of Philadelphia’s annual Roots Picnic was a little ambitious. Rather than rescheduling the event again, The Roots have shared that they’re going digital this year, hosting the star-studded celebration of music and activism on YouTube at the end of June.
The thirteenth annual Roots Picnic will take place on June 27 with Questlove, Black Thought, and Michelle Obama hosting, it was officially announced today. Additionally, the event will boast appearances from a massive list of performers—including H.E.R., Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, SZA, D-Nice, Polo G, G Herbo, Musiq Soulchild, and EarthGang—as well as appearances from Janelle Monáe, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Tom Hanks, and Chris Paul.
The event will support Michelle Obama’s non-profit When We All Vote, ensuring everyone eligible will be voting in the upcoming election. Tune in to The Roots’ YouTube on the 27th at 5 p.m. PST. More details below.
