It was welcome news at the beginning of the year to learn that we’d soon be returning to Camp Firewood, and now Netflix has put together the perfect tease for the upcoming series prequel, wailing guitars and all. As previously hinted at, the new Wet Hot will be a prequel…of sorts. Whereas the 2001 film focused on the last day of camp in the summer of ’81, the new series will take place on the first one, appropriately titled Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.
Returning to Camp Firewood, in alphabetical order, will be: Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Amy Poehler, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, and Michael Showalter. Pretty much the only people left off of that list are A.D. Miles, Marisa Ryan, Kevin Sussman, Nina Hellman, and H. Jon Benjamin, but they are listed along with Richard Schiff on the show’s IMDb page.
The eight-episode series will be directed by David Wain, co-written by Wain and Showalter, and air sometime this summer (of course).
