Once you’ve worked in the studio with artists like Mark Ronson, Chance the Rapper, Miley Cyrus, and Harry Styles, you’ve got it made. For the brassy production duo Brasstracks, that means your fan mail to your favorite artists could be the first step in a fruitful collaboration, as is the case with their newest single, which will appear on the pair’s upcoming debut album Golden Ticket, out August 21 via EQT & Capitol Records.

“In New Orleans at 3 a.m., I listened to Lawrence’s album Living Room all the way through,” shares Ivan Jackson of the soul-pop band who collaborated with him and his bandmate Conor Rayne on their new song “Hold Ya.” “I was such a fan, I wrote them a long email freaking out about them. We were able to do a few sessions, and we wrote ‘Hold Ya’ during our last session while we were goofing around. It was originally a guitar-and-drum demo, but after we played it for Lawrence, we were off to the races that night, working on the song until four in the morning. All the vocals you hear are from that night in our basement bedroom. Sorry neighbors!”

“‘Hold Ya’ started out as a bare-bones duo jam just between guitarist Randy Runyon and me, which was an inspiring way to start a song,” Rayne adds. “It was just two people. Lawrence then got on the track and really developed it. We laid down more instruments, and the song really grew into something special. It came to life.”
