In many ways, the new Portugal. The Man single deviates from the direction the Portland rockers have been headed in with their last few releases—namely that it’s a cover of a classic musical number. However, their take on the Annie staple “Tomorrow” sounds right at home in the PTM discography, landing alongside the flowery psych-rock of their Satanic Satanist days.
The song arrives today ahead of the release of a full compilation of songs that benefit Save the Children—At Home with the Kids drops this Friday, and sees original recordings of familiar tunes by the likes of Sia, DRAM, Chromeo, Tove Lo, and chloe moriondo.
“We were approached to do a children’s song and without hesitation Zoe and I both immediately gravitated to ‘Tomorrow,’” John Gourley shared. “Though we have dramatically different upbringings, me in rural Alaska and Zoe from Northwest England, ‘Annie’ was a staple growing up and a big part of why we love music, it was something we both watched and sang with our families. Now, we get to raise our daughter with the same tradition of singing ‘Tomorrow.’”
