Metal-trio-led-astray Hundredth are back with even more unpredictable music. Somewhere Nowhere will be their fifth studio album, following the 2017 turning point RARE. Even if that album was a surprise, the band released a new single today, “Bottle It Up,” that’s somehow even more unexpected.

Taking a more synth-pop approach and playing with electronic elements, Hundredth have laid down their arms, choosing lighter sonic landscapes. Vocalist Chadwick Johnson worked with the revered Sam Pura in San Francisco and used isolation as a way to become immersed in this new sound. “It’s always been about where we are right now—what we want to hear, what’s inspiring in the moment,” he explained in a press statement. “We’re always growing and changing as people, so it makes sense that the music does too.”

Somewhere Nowhere arrives October 9, and it’s available for pre-order now. Listen to “Bottle It Up” below.
